Car Czar Penske, Tanner in Race of Champions, Focus RS for U.S.? - 12/11/2008

I would go for the focus rs. I it is much better car. Have you ever closed the door on those rice cars. If vw had a faster and better handling than their wrx ford can do it too.

If a company like Toyota has the brains to keep loftily priced sports cars out of the soft American auto market, I think Ford will have the same sense. Someone in this country has to build Crown Vics and Mustangs, and Taurus/Probe/Fusion cars. Besides, this car would be direct competition with the Mazdaspeed 3 and less likely to show up at SCCA and NASA events due to the exorbitant pricetag. I don't see any logic in this move for Ford.

I'd love to see a focus RS here, but its going to cost the same as an EVO/STi, then its not going to sell for two reasons. The EVO/STi has AWD, and the rice boys won't buy up the focus RS even if its an unreliable over-priced POS ( unlike the EVO/STi which people don't mind paying K for, then breaking driveline parts ). I'd honestly rather see an ecoboost 2.0-2.5L I-4 cylinder turbo ( direct injection turbo ) in the U.S. focus RS with FWD for K and AWD for K. With ford owning Volvo, they already have the great Haldex AWD systems to build a REAL reliable AWD american race/ralley style car ( vs the EVO/Sti, which you have to just about upgrade everything behind the motor if you want to run 12.80s or faster ). Ford is supposed to build a DSG gearbox too for the fusion ( which will share the direct injection 4 banger with the focus ). Imagine a focus that looks like an RS. Has a reliable AWD system like the VW R32. Has the DSG like the R32. Has a high-tech direct injection turbo power plant and sells for K. It would kill the EVO/STi. And the FWD version would kill the new turbo cobalt SS for the same price ( and look 100x better ). Ford has the parts. but do have the ballz ?

Here's what I just learned: Roger Penske has no taste in cars. Buying only the fastest and most expensive cars in Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, and Ford's lineups does not scream "car guy" to me. A mint '71 Hemi 'Cuda convertible would be about as expensive and would be about 100 times cooler, in my opinion

If Ford wanted to do it right, they'd mate the Focus RS to AWD...as in their WRC version. But if you're in the market for a car that costs upwards of 50K...there are so many other choices.

Big difference between Focus compared to Evo X and STI is that Ford is a 5-cylinder front-wheel-drive hatch while both Subaru and Mitsubishi are full time 4-cylinder 4WD machines., good on Ford anyways for coming-out with the RS. Fiesta will be a good car... just don't ever get the sedan versions.

I was always under the impression that the cost of homologating a car for North American Safety & Insurance Standards was so exhorbitant, that it was simply more efficient to design a car from scratch specifically for the target market.
