If you want a real car, go for the Hennessy TT viper venom, in snake skin green. More sex appeal than any other car in the world. Screams out badass more than any car in the world. Stock 1000hp, luxorious, and it would fill you with pride. Just hearing it purr would put a grin on anyones face.

I have to say the BMW or the Pontiac Solstice.  I like the styling of the Pontiac, and you gotta look good and all, but BMW is generally the better performance car.

Why would you even think about getting a GTI???!!! All those who comment know NOTHING about cars. For one thing VW is probably the worst car company on earth with absolutely no taste, style, or design, for another its a hatchback and looks TERRIBLE (one of the worst looking cars you could own) and not to mention its performance sucks!!! Get the 1 series, its better than all teh other choices, but why not spend 5-7K more for a 3 series that looks and performs better?

I go with the GTI my frends and i have beat on 1 for a year now on road and off and snow, that was scary but if your not going with an Audi i would go with that. if your going for some kind of yupe status i would go BMW. but i do not look a that bmw as a real bmw, is like geting a corvette with a 4 cylinder. :)

Long time watcher, first time commenter. my vote is for the solstice gxp coupe, if you would buck up and get a 135i the vote would be much different, however the 128i's engine is a little anemic for the cars heavy weight. Also the gxp has much more tuning capability than the 128i. Although, nothing drives like a bimmer, and the bimmer is going to be a better dd. In terms of a fun well handling dd the 128i cannot be beat, but if you are looking for something a little more fun on the weekends, and a little more impractical every day, the gxp will be more fun.

Buy the bmw 128I DAAAAA. the vw is cool but not that cool.  128 sexy

I would say the best all around car would be the VW GTI and its the coolest.  Bmw = 2 seater and its probably a bit faster but not practical.  Cobalt SS not bad but doesnt compare.  GXP also a 2 seater and the Bmw would be better imo.

Get the VW... the two American cars will feel plasticy and crappy. However the two Nazimobile's will feel like they're made of quality material... the BMW might be a little less... cheap feeling than the VW, but the VW is cooler... It's a manly-er car.

I think VW with Golf MK5's design went backwards,

However, it might take ages to get to the US market.

FLDetours was a little dry, guys, you should get out of the city
and do some tests depending on the car at hand, as another commenter said.

I really like the FLDetours but I agree with some other users that it was kind of short and also not as funny as the normal FLD stuff.

Oh yeah if I had to choose between the 4 cars I would take the BMW.
OK, I mean I'm german so I think the VW, and the BMW are the best out of those four, but hands down the BMW is the best looking, best handling and best made car out of thoose four cars!

If you would live in Germany you could think about getting the Pontiac, just because you don't see alot around and you would be kind of different, but since you live in the US I guess you can see them all the time.
So the Bimmer gets my vote!

Just to clear things up, the 1-series has about the same interior room as the previous generation 3-series coupes (e46). It's not nearly as cramped as people make it out to be. That said, make sure it comes with the sport package and it is a fantastic car to drive :).

Erivera989, yes FLD talks about the latest and greatest sport cars.  But...how often do you think the automakers of a 6+ figure supercar would hand over the keys to a company like FLD?  Don't get me wrong, FLD is great for what it is...but get real.

An SRT4 Neon is only fun for about 15 minutes.  Then you'll start getting a headache from the loud noise and your kidneys take a pounding because the suspension is so stiff.  It's a quick little car, but definently not an everyday drivers car.  The kind of girl an SRT4 attracts will get you 30 years, if you know what I mean.

My biggest questions about this "pick my car" thing is....Do you have a budget as to how much you will pay for a car?  And...Why are there only 4 cars to pick from?  It really depends on how you are going to use it.  When you're driving, are you usually by yourself?  Do you golf or do anything else where you would need more cargo room?  I doubt how fast a car is an issue.  People should never buy a car just because its fast.  You won't be able to drive it the way its intended to be driven, at least...not that much.  Lets face it, you can't go faster than the guy in front of you.  Most people average less than 40 miles per hour anyways.  I'm surprised that there are over 70 comments in here and no one mentioned the Mini.  I think the Clubman would be a great pick for you.

I vote for the VW Golf GTI. And here's why: the Pontiac and Chevrolet aren't built as well as their frankly superior German opponents. The Pontiac is mostly a fashion item, which means a year or two from now it won't be cool anymore. The BMW is mostly a badge, and you will be a BMW driver, which has a lot of snob value, if that's important to you. The Cobalt is somewhat a fashion car, but it just seems like a car that is associated with enormous spoilers and chrome rims. So either way the Cobalt will also be uncool in no time. The VW, however, is a car that has been made for many years, which means that it won't fall apart, it is stylish without being a fad, and it is a vehicle readily recognized, but subtle at the same time. This is not to mention having a large cargo capacity and decent acceleration and handling.

Hey bro, I own an SRT4 Neon and have driven the BMW. The SRT is like the cobalt SS, Fast and light. Boost is an awesome feeling and makes great fun anytime you put your foot down. But it wont get the kind of girls a smart guy like you would want to take home to the family. The luxury of the BMW will never get old, never get you in trouble, and always sell for more than fast will.

DD go for the Solstice, it's a looker, turbo charged, a true sports car, and "American".  Come on the first FLDetours...a Volvo wagon.  The show talks so much about the latest and greatest sports cars and you test drive a grocery getter.  No disrespect for Volvo, but the show is exciting, the Volvo isn't. FLDetours - good, but not exciting. How can you make 200+hp seem so boring? i can't believe how cheap cars are in the US......im so bitter.

DD car - Pontiac, artwork only becomes priceless after the artist dies......i don't know how much longer the US auto industry can hang on. Also the BMW is a crampt pig of a car (bring back the 850i!!!), the Golf is the Sirrocco's ugly cousin....as for the cobalt - i don't mind it.......but that tells me that in your personal life you probably keep going back to the same women for love.......silly silly man.

I mean - if your going to buy a new Cobalt - why not just turbo/NOS the 1 you have?

Definitely buy the Pontiac Solstice GXP, I love the looks of the hardtop better than the stupid convert. and I drove the Sky Redline with the same engine and it is incredible, 270 hp in a that car is phenomenal. I have also seen a sick dual CAI system and many tuning upgrades to message the engine up to 300hp

DD for the money of the VW you should get a Mazdaspeed 3, it a lot better choice and a lot more powerful too.  Oh wait never mind you probably cant drive a stick, so just get a VW with an auto.

Buy the Solstice, and here's why:
1. It's far better looking than any of the other 3 cars, and I doubt anyone would disagree. I'd even consider it more attractive than even the Alfa Romeo Brera, MiTo, or the Fiat 500. 
2. A targa top means it's both a hard-top and a convertible when you want it to be (cloth top included), so you can have all the headroom in the world on hot days.
3. It's American. Stimulate the economy, man!
4. It's a freaking transformer.
5. The designer, Franz von Holzhausen, also designed the Mazda Furai. Yeah, the Furai.

Why you shouldn't buy the others:
1. Buying the beamer "just because it's a BMW" doesn't make any sense. Some BMWs are good, others are not, as with any other car company on the planet.
2. The 1-series is basically (in terms of market) a smaller version of the 3-series, so it will just look like a cheaper, weirder-looking version.
3. It doesn't make any sense to buy a small VW unless it's an Mk.5 R34, a Mk.6 or a Scirocco.
4. Not another Cobalt. It's not nearly interesting enough.

The GTI is great but FWD and its an old and soon to be substituted model.

FLDetours could be a bit more exciting, ie: go offroad with the 4x4 Volvo; if you test a hatchback, take it to a slalom; if its a sportscar - trackday. FLDetours was a great idea though!

What happened to the new Challenger?? But of those four I would go for the VW. Its a good looking ride. Besides then you could yell "VW in the house!!" in a really cheesy German voice. Its a win win.

-youre going to be taking out the ladies, so you need space.  rules out the solstice and cobalt (for the fact the girls won't dig it).
-take practicality.  you need space in the back to put stuff in.  is the BMW going to give you enough room? no. the gti can fold flat and give you huge space!
- ITS TURBOCHARGED!!! its awesome to drive, very responsive, and a beautiful car.

if i were you, id wait for the new model.  if youre going to buy one so close to the new one's release, youre missing out on the new options, like increase in boost and horsepower as well as the updated looks. theres no other way to go

Really, its a choice of 3 cars.  The Cobalt was thrown in as either a joke or genuine love for the car.  I get it, you take pride in the car you bought. 

The GXP is a good car.  Sporty, sits low, handles well.  Should you ever want to take a trip somewhere, you'll need to rent a car with more room.   

The BMW has a lot going for it.  Quick, good on gas and fun to drive.  Steering response and feedback is right on and probably the best in this group.  

I've never heard of anyone complaining about their GTI.  It's an everyday drivers car that does everything it was made to do and does it very well.  

The car I would choose in this group is the BMW.

Simple: BMW 1 series, after you drive a RWD german car, you won't wanna go to FWD american car.

Please get the 128i! It would be awsome in black or white. Don't get some stupid red color or somethin. What happened to the SRT 8 you showed at the L.A. Auto Show.

Dereck you need a cool car how about a CLK AMG 63.

If you're getting the 128i with all the packages, why not get the 135i without any packages. It's a much better drive and looks sweet especially the white or blue one. If you're looking for something to impress I'd say get the Solstice, the other 2 cars aren't even close in terms of looks.

The Solstice coupe would be interesting, but it is a very limited car. Good for people who track their rides often, not good for people who need them for everyday use. I laugh at my friend who always has to hold his large drinks in-between his legs when in his Solstice (the cup holders are useless and in a useless spot). So, I myself am thinking of sporting a GXP coupe, but I am making sure I could handle the loss of comforts that I am used to everyday. Everything in a car that I spend MY money on has to be perfect...certain things, like I mentioned above, can break a deal for me...how about you?

In that case, if you need a back seat and a little more amenities, I would definitely go with the BMW. Can you handle only having FWD again? If so, the VW will not be a bad choice, but if you want sport, comfort, a bit of luxury and a classy image…the BMW is the only way to go.

I was not entirely excited by the car review, it had no camera shots of the car’s features (dash, engine, seats etc.) and it was not really a car test. How about some real world statistics? We all know what car testers can do with cars, after multi-perfect launches, but what about you? Can you drive the car fast, in all conditions, or is it a race car driver only car or a granny car? The seats...good bolsters, or do you slide around on them...do they break your back after a long drive?

In the case of the Volvo you guys just tested…performance is not the goal, so why not show us some everyday use of the car. It is a wagon, how easy is it to park, how easy is it to fold the seats and load up? There are so many things you guys can show in a couple minutes that you guys did not…

DEREK deserves the soltice, its just him, alex should get the bmw 1, and carrie would fit nicely into the v-dub.  cobalt should not even be near these cars... i had a rental the other day.... HORRENDOUS!! Gotta give you props for even sitting in the car.... my coffee mug has better quality and structural integrity than the cobalt..  

FLDetours is cool, needs more time in the segment with a bit more details in the conversation than just fuel economy is o.k..... quantify please! and not on the chart.

Great episode. As for DD's new car, I'd go with the solstice gxp. In my opinion, it's got the best combination of looks and performance for the price. The 128i is very nice, but it seems that the luxury comes at a cost of performance to some extent. I would say go for the nissan 370z, but you obviously have nixed that one for some reason, so--with that in mind-- the solstice gxp seems like a great alternative.

those cars are probably the most mismatched cars I have ever seen together. Why would you want another cobalt? IMO F new cars get a 76 VW rabbit, you would get way more props and it would save you a lot of money. out of those cars i would probably choose the one series, it will probably deliver the best driving experience and face it, the ladies love the beamers

BMW 128i all the way. Get the tii body kit, sports package, and performance steering wheel, and you're golden.

The issues with getting the BMW is the 128 I is so slow I drove one hated it I can get a better drive from  the GTI or Audi A3. The Audi will be the cheapest to insure because Audi has the safest brand of car in the world. My mother has a 128i the window fell in the door and the bumper scratches the bottom and at one point she pulled over a parking stump and it pulled off the bumper 1200 dollars repair. GO with the VW or better yet an Audi A3 or an 09 Audi A4

Hands down: Get the BMW. I think it reminisces the quintessential sports car. Small, compact, rear wheel drive; not to forget it has BMW's I-6 engine which is one of the best in my opinion.

Derek, get the GTI! I've had one for a couple of months and love it!  It's a blast to drive, as easy to maintain as the BMW, and so much more practical than the Solstice.  Plus, do you really want to drive a 1-Series?  They're all right, but you're going to be envious of all the 3-Series you see pull up next to you.  Plus, the GTI is HUGE for a hatch-back.  Hands down, best car by far

The GTI.  I bought mine 10 months ago haveing selectyed it against the BMW 130 (hatch).  The Golf was more agile, nicer handling (way less understeer) and a more comfortabe daily user.

It was the car that I was happy to buy at the time and I am still convinced I made the right choice.

Hey Alan Was that your own car. For a debeaut that was a crappy car choice. Why not drive one of D.D.'s cars. That Volvo was totally random. Arent they going under anyway. They dont want to "Cut" any more trees and waste them on their interior. 

And as for you D.D.  YOU ARE SO ROCKN ANOTHER COBALT!  I believe you have a signature. You dont need a big back seat anyway and there is a place to hang your belts and store your milk crates. Hopefully the power seat will substitute for the bed pillow under your bum so you can see out.

You gotta get the 1 Series BMW.  It's sporty, fuel efficient, and has a status that Pontiac and Volkswagen can't come close to.  Plus if you hate it BMW's have great resale value unlike a Cobalt.  If these are the choices it's a BMW for you and me.  I still say the Challenger SRT 8 is way cooler for not much more than the BMW.  Think about it at least.
