Lexus LFA Special Editions, Maybach may be going away, U.S. Police Cars - 3/17/2010

If there are two things I know about, it's what's hot in the auto world and driving police cars.  What a police car needs is a reliable yet powerful powertrain, rear wheel drive (possibly AWD), four doors with lots of room, great brakes, affordable at fleet cost, and carry an American name badge.  That being said, we already know the Dodges are lacking in the reliability and brake factor from experience, there's no telling what to expect out of a ford V6 (until it proves itself), the Carbon E7 is far too expensive, thus leaving the GM.  My intitial thoughts were that the Pontiac G8 would be a great police car when it first came about, and I have good expectations for how it will perform in law enforcement under the Chevy badge.  Caprice hands down, at least until we know what the new Taurus can bring to the show.  

On a side note, I'm sorry to hear some of you guys aren't very fond of police officers.  I only say (like D mentioned) we're mostly motor buffs just like all of you, and we're not all out 'to get' you.

My pic is the Ford SHO for a cop car. It's the only American brand that didn't need a bail out from the Gov't. IMHO.

It really eats me up though when I see BMW cop cars. Why do they need Uber Xpsnv Luxury Cars for?!* Maybe the best cop car = best taxi? Like that Ford Transit thingy u guys tested? Can u imagine the associated costs with the entire Maybach affair? Good Lord, u could easily finance a dozen 3rd world countries debt. The next S-Class has Z4 influence from the front 1/4.

What cop car do I like? Are you kidding. I don't like any cop car, no matter the model.

The Carbon 7 is by far the best Police vehicle choice for the 21st century police officer.  I nhave been following the Caron 7 for the past 3 years and every aspect of this vehicle has to be the choice.  Besides, if all police officers were driving the Carbon 7, it would be easier to spot them when your speeding.

well lets see...the government owns gm, so i'm assuming they will be buying from themselves...might be able to cut themselves a deal or something...

What a waste of taxes they should repair the ones they got and buy something used and paint and light it!  They ruin enough peoples lives anyhow without wasting our taxes too!

Well, since the Chevy Caprice is actually the old Pontiac G8, which in turn is an imported Holden Commodore from Australia.... I think it very quickly becomes a 3 horse race........

The great looking interior and brand new rear wheel drive platform of the Caprice has me jonesin for one of those to pull my speeding fanny over. I cant wait.

The Caprice should be used for cops because Chevy started out making retro-styled impalas and somewhat on the Malibu but that Caprice being the G8 in disguise looks alright from the front and rear..  It is still going to be a G8 in different badges right???
oh well, just got to help chevy get out of the cellar since not being able to sell any of the divisions they cancelled and stopped manufacturing from..

btw. to "outrun" german police is very easy, there are only a handful of porsches or AMGs, most cop cars are just "Opel" or "VW".
Problem is: they are structured very well, so you don`t have to be worried about the car thats chasing you, but you should worry about another cop waiting at the next autobahn exit.

In your lineup, I'd choose the Caprice.  Although not new, the Ford Crown Vic is my preferred choice.

NIU campus police roll in the Toyota Prius, it’s the quietest and most eco friendly Leo car ever. Saw a kid try to out run one with a 50cc scooter, he was caught 200 yards later in the main intersection on campus. I’m not sure who was more embarrassed when the cop got out to write the ticket.

ford all the way if your talking about the best pic for America, but the best pic out of all them would diff be the carbon motors E7 it was made with cops in mined!

I would rather the Police drive a purpose-made car, so for me it comes down to the Carbon Motors E7 and the (fortunately) Chevy Caprice Policer. Given what I know of the car, I want the Carbon Motors E7. It is actually made for the job. Even the Caprice is a general production car, GM should be selling to the public and not just Police. 

Again my vote: CM E7.

BTW: The Lexus LF-A will crash and burn. Hopefully without killing the driver. Toyota can't win a major international race and hasn't for some time. I don't deride them trying, but they could spend more time working up to it.

nothing about St. Patrick's Day. That is disappointing especially with all the Jersey Shore jokes that could have been had.

the purpose built cop-car. it is safer for the officer and passengers, performs better and is only available to police. plus it looks scary as hell.

i think the cops should be driving toyota tarcels instead of dodge chargers... this would save america.. 1st by giving some of the budget money to the schools,, and this would properly represent the personalities of cops.. old rusted slow pieces of shit that they are

Charger to represent America. There are a few in Texas, they are pretty intimidating.

I like the Ford. I've driver the Dodge in LA, it's good but tight in the front seats. The Fords have usally been a better fit. It has to be big in the front seats so its easier to jump out and jam up gangsters and thugs!

If it's going to represent America, I'd go with the Ford.
