kool show, u guys took the words right outta my mouth, everything u touched on has come outta my mouth at one point or the other when my friends and i r talking car., its great to hear it from others. as far as the whole fuel economy thing goes. i dont think i really care, i'm sorry to say, cylinder deactivation and hybrid's and so on, it all depends on the way u drive, i drive my mom's prius from time to time and i can get as low as 20mpg all because of the way i drive. my foot is always to the ground and that therefore cancels out any chance of getting the advertised 48mpg highway and city driving, and we're talking about a car that can get as high as 80mpg if ur on the highway and using cruise control {i've try'd it and it works} but because of the way i drive that hardly ever happens, i personally dont need a car that has cylinder deactivation or some type of hybrid system cuz it wont benefit me, what i need is for gas prices to go down, lol. howeva if thats the only way their gonna keep V8 and V10 or even V12's going i dont mind.

It's clear that diesel the fuel for the next 100years because it's also based on oil. But oil is not runing out that fast! There are plenty of huge oil fields on our planet the only problem is that the fuel/oil companys didn't invest money ten years ago in better and more refineries. There is enough oil for us for the next 25years until oil peak the problem is that the oil companys didn't expected such a huge demand like we have now!!!

Some people are still missing the point regarding gasoline. It is not infinite and majority of it is controlled by people who want nothing but more profits every year…until it runs out. It is a proven inevitability that peak oil is coming or already here; our prices already reflect this. New sources of oil will only perpetuate the price hikes for a longer time and when China comes totally online, and consumes just as much as the rest of the world…watch out (they will use diesel too). Diesel is a good alternative, plus it is easy to make a car cleaner for the environment with it too. It is a fix and something that can be used to wean us off gas altogether, but it is not the end fuel. The above poster really does not understand hydrogen technology too well (we can't make gas in our garages either...). Also, if it is introduced, it will be just that…introduced. There will be very little conversions going on and if someone wants that done; it is up to them. Vehicles will not change over night and that sort of technology will integrate itself in the time frame of 15-25 years. Once again, diesel can be the answer to getting us to that point. Then there is electic and I will debate and lobby for this one until I am dead. Along with creating/building different ways to create power (wind, solar, nuclear, clean coal) electric cars can slowly be introduced into the market. New generations of batteries will lower the overall charge load (multiple batteries and longer charge life could equal 1500km range in the next 25 years. Regenerative breaking and solar paneling renewing the dormant batteries could extend the range farther. On top of that, electric cars are light and fast…how is this not a win, win situation. Diesel can help create a path to new fuel sources, but do not rely on it to be our GRANDCHILDRENS'S fuel source...think about it!

i wonder if ulrich took ritalin as a kid?.....but yes diesel is the way to go for more power,once the demand is there we should start seeing some of the better technology from the trucking industy come down into the auto industry,because it is the only other fuel that we (as a consumer nation) can use,why?...the infrastructure is already there.hydrogen is a huge wast of time....think opf the cost it will have to set up the entire worlt to fuel its vehicles on hydrogen...it would be more expensive than gas...and not to mention all the people blowing themselves up trying to make it at home(yeah it is easy,but do you think the government wont make it illegal to make your own?)...if it was viable the major fuel manufactorers would have been making the changes 10 years ago... so yeah we need lighter cars with more efficient engines....if only they could make the gasoline engine 100% efficient...you could use a 4 cylinder in a 1/2 ton....v-twin cars...what a cool car that would be...

Really great show Matt and the others!!! A truck is the right space for a diesel engine because the great amount of torque helps you with heavy trailers and also when you go offroad. So you can take a smaller dieselengine to get the same torque and power like a 6 or 7 litre V8 engine. But my favorite topic is lightweight and I think there are possibilitys to make the cars much lighter without risking the safety and without deleting the comfort from the car. I would like to see a 135i with 200 pounds less weight and I think it's possible without stripping the entiriour. Lighter rims are one step everyone can do. Take a 4 O.Z. Supperlegera wheels put it on and you safed the first few pounds and get a better handling.
