Shelby Terlingua Mustang Review- Part 3- Garage419

im from cananda and im interested in buying a Terlingua how do i do this and can u pick ur options or do u have to get one package or the other

The Terlingua is setup a lot like my 2006 V6 Mustang which is a blast on the open track and autocross. You may be surprised how many really nice performing V6 Mustangs are around. I have been preaching about the performance, both handling and power, potential of the 2005-2008 V6 Mustang all along. A little know fact also is that the drive train in the V6 sits 1.25 lower then in the GT. This also helps handling performance. The only thing this car lacks is a good transmission. The T5 in a stock V6 Mustang can't handle much abuse and a lot of guys are breaking them over and over. I came up with a solution for this in my Mustang by developing an adaptor kit that allows the installation of the TR3650 5-Speed out of a GT or the TR6060 6-Speed out of the GT500 to be installed. To date as far as I know my 2006 Mustang V6 is the only one on the road with A TR6060 6-speed along with 4:10 gears. Now if the Terlingua had one of these it would truly be the ultimate track car. Out of the box this seems like a heckuva good deal, this would be a great car for the cash and sounds like a blast to drive!

I wonder if you can customize the Terlingua like no hood or stickers, that would make that car one hell of a sleeper. Do think you could ever do a comparison of the Terlingua and the Steeda QS6, I own a 05 Mustang V6 and I'm looking into both packages.

OK I'm plannin 2 get a 2005 mustang gt... & get the cervini c500 on it... But Y dont shelby unveil a 2nd gen eleanor... As evey body knows the 1st gen was a legend... & the worst thing is that it is kinda hard 2 get special shelbys in Canada...

Do not forget guys, used V6 mustangs sell for cheap! I am sure one could pick-up a used 2005 Mustang for near half price...easy. In my neck of the woods, I have seen a couple mid-mileage 05’s for 10k and cars are way more expensive up here! Put that into the pricing equation and the car would only be 25k to build. Now that is a bargain! Once again, this is why I think Hyundai nailed it with their new coupe (like it or not). The turbo-charged 4 banger, I think, is going to sell like hot cakes. It will be easy and cheap to boost upwards of 350-400hp from it, save massive weight, greater balance and mileage over any V6. I hate saying that…Hyundai nailed it…WTF???

finally ....someone on this little chunk of dirt we live on, has figured it out....we dont need 8 cylinders to go fast...yeah, yeah..most v-8's go fast...but with the right coaxing a smaller engine will go just as fast...or faster, in the right platform... i saw the green aveo with the cobalt SS engine in it...and it is really fast.....so i wonder how long it will be, before we see 500hp v-6's from a domestic......

The "Terlingua Rocker stripe and hood Rabbit" are part of the package. They could be taken off after you get it though. It is my understanding that you could have this package installed on a V6 2005 to current SN197 Mustang. As long as it is not a beater.

So let me get this straight. I can buy a used V6 Mustang for around 10-12K and then spend 18k more to get a pimped out track car. Im seriopusly considering this. Looks like a great deal but can you get it to be a sleeper without the decals?

Nice choice with the S5 Matt, I know this comment is a little late but I have had my S5 for about six months and that car is still a sick and I think it will age well. Just curious what mods you were thinking about if and when you pick one up? I am thinking Milltek and possibly a chip. Anyway after the Audi mileage tour if you guys hang out in Denver hit me up.

Great review Matt!! The idea behind the Terlingua is the same thing I want for my cars and that's what the mass industry forgot to notice. I think there are a lot of people who would gave their v8 away for a light! and powerfull V4 or even a 4 cylinder like in the Audi TTS or s3 models.

I need one of these. I think I've come to a point in my life where I can afford to put out the bucks on a Shelby; and this one makes it affordable...plus, it's a model that handles!

its funny cuz we've talked about about company's like ford and chevy doing just what Shelby's done with the V6 Terlingua and sure enough, it works. lol i'd take note if i were a company head. u dont always need a V8 or a V10 or V12 to have fun.

It's funny how people rave how great European cars are, and yet they do poorly on quality (Consumer ratings). All you have to do is pick up a copy of Automobile November 2008 (Four Seasons BMW X5) and see how many warranty repairs were performed. The Four Seasons Audi A6 had to go to the dealer 8 times for repairs during it's 12 month stay. They have had other problems with BMW's and let's not forget the previous generation M3 engine failures. It happens to all car companies. Quit singling out the American cars as the worst. Spend k on a Mustang like this, or hop up a Scion. I'll take the Mustang.

WOW!!! thanks for the quick and honest response I'm not a mustang lover but I must say it looks like it beats out the competition in this category in this price range by FAR! foreign or domestic! strictly out of curiosity... you hint at fuel economy... what is it? best guesses are ok we won't put a bible under your hand

This car seems pretty fast and I am loving that side exhaust especially the noise that it makes.

You definitely seem really excited about this car, and Im pretty much sold on it. But Im more of a Chevy guy, so if no tuners or specialty dealers apply the Terlingua formula to a V6 Camaro, then I guess Ill have to do it myself. If GM ever gets it out to market, that is.

No, the stock mustang interior is still average at best. But the performance of this car for 35 grand is staggering, so I'd be willing to sacrifice the interior a bit.

Hey I noticed earlier on in the series you slammed (and well deserved might I add) the American auto industry on how the cars were designed and built. Basically poor performance, poor reliability, poor interiors, and poor fuel economy as compared with their European and Japanese counterparts. I've noticed a big shift in this as of late though concentrating on the aftermarket tuned. I was curious if the stock products have gotten better and especially the interiors, figuring most buyers are not going to the track or modifying them that extensively.
