The new GT is basically the drivetrain from the old Bullitt, with a few suspension tweaks and a revised exhaust. I haven't driven it yet, but I hear it's nice, and it sounds good. The new shifter is fantastic.

The auto executives are asking for a low interest loan. Bankruptcy is not an option, because they could not possibly get financing in this climate. The banks and institutions getting the bailout money are keeping the money and not lending it out, or using the money to buy other institutions, and not using the money in the spirit of the bailout. But $25B is out of line for the US automakers? Also keep in mind that in other countries, public money is used for research on things like batteries. Look how hard it is for Boeing to compete with Airbus and it's government backing. Don't forget other countries have national health care, another expense US automakers have to worry about. Money on the Mustang reveal was well spent, coverage like this is invaluable to them, it would cost tens of millions of dollars in print and tv ads to get across the message of the 2010 Mustang. And yet Ford did this for less at one location, how many times will this reveal be watched on all the Internet links? It's amazing how quick people rip American automakers of overlapping product, but never any mention of the other automakers that do it. Lexus ES/Camry, LX570/Landcruiser. 370Z/G37 (more similarities than the Taurus/MKS). It has been proven in the consumer magazines perception of American cars is not reality...........Look at Ford they are at the top in quality in some segment (of cars) but people believe them to be unreliable.......Ford has successfully poached high ranking Toyota personnel, they brought over from Toyota that quality mindset. Look at the CTS-V kicks ass and takes names, but no respect simply because it is American, or that it needs a supercharger. Double standard, OK to have a supercharger, or turbocharger on a BMW, MB, Bentley, Audi, but not an American car. Total bullshit.

Your first few paragraphs are well stated, but I do not think your rant about quality is warranted. People see the past before the future and cannot read the present to judge a car’s overall quality. American quality/cheapness and bland styling is just a fact (there are cars in the junkyards to prove it). The new Ford cars that have reached the top quality standards are just that, new models. People will still look at American cars as unreliable until the new cars have broken into the mainstream and created a new name for themselves. This will take time and not one of the Big Three can afford to blunder once. If the reliable Ford you refer to is the Fusion, for instance, its lack of sales over import cars in its class could have more to do with it horribly bland styling. For the same price you can get the same quality with far more style. Also, all I read about is the CTS-V…so I am not sure what you have been reading. If it is some M3 fanboy ranting...who carse? The testers/reviewers have all spoken in favour of the CTS-V and only want to see more refinement to take it to the next level. (From what I have read). Personally, I think the V needs 10 years of proven performance before it could truly knock the leaders of the top anyhow. It still has the grandpa’s car stigma surrounding it. This is the same issue the newer higher quality American cars have…they need time to create a new history.

certainly can say the same of Honda and Toyota being bland. Only in the past 2 years have they developed any style. Bland worked for them. But American cars are expected to exceed even higher standards. The Honda's and Toyota's are not in the junk yards due to completely being rusted out. Honda's are notorious for developing rust on the rear wheel wells on cars with factory moon/sunroofs. Lets look at a prime example of media, consumer bias hatred of American cars. The Pontiac Vibe and the Toyota Matrix. We both know they are built by the same people at the same plant, both cars (in GT and XRS packages) are within twenty dollars of each other (Toyota more). The Pontiac has a longer warranty, other than that they are identical, so why does the Matrix retain significantly more value than the Vibe? Another example of anti American journalism would be how little coverage of Toyota's sludging engines, camshaft failure (Tundra 8 cylinder), transmission problems (Camry), but any time it as an American automaker-front page news, makes the national news. You either treat everyone the same or don't bother reporting the story. Family, friends, and myself have owned Japanese products. Some OK, some garbage, a friend had a Prelude and an Accord, both junk, rusted out faster than any car I have ever come across. Of course rust was not the only problem. Very few people understand that when Mercedes Benz was number 1 in quality in the 80's they had over 250 problems per 100 vehicles. If an automaker has those numbers today it puts them at the bottom of the quality chart. So it would be wrong for anyone to say quality has not improved by American manufactures. I'm not saying American cars are perfect, but neither are the Japanese, Germans, or Koreans. Just like American have made junkers, so have the Japanese, Germans, and Koreans.

Toyota/Lexus and other foreign companies are not on the verge of bankrupcy are they, and the CTS-V is a great car, not so much the old one though. Obviously giving 700 billion to wall street was a mistake but just because that mistake was made doesn't mean they have to make another catastrophic mistake and give our money to these guys who apparently can't manage a company. Ex. Corparste jets to D.C., and Ford CEO Allan Mulally make 16 million dollars a year. 16 mil. Who knows what wagonner is making at GM

it's a nice redesign. i'm glad they didn't scrap the whole look and completely re-do it, because it's a very functional shape, much more so than the 99-04's. The interior is similar, but some key points are different. The new shifter is much better. The nav screen is well integrated into the dash, and there are many more customization options available.

oh yeah and speak for yourself, id rather not be acquainted in a mustang nation
