It is great to see, that many are working on the Fiat 500 in order to go electric. We have unveilled the prototype of the plug-in hybrid fiat 500 swisscleandrive November 4th 2009 in Zurich. Now we are preparing for serial production.

I disagree with you guy's general assessment of electric cars.  I can definitely see electrics picking up significant market share in the next 10 years.  Yes, batteries are the limiting factor now but technology is improving and prices will fall rapidly.  Any company that is NOT at least exploring the possibilities in the electric market seems pretty stupid to me.  I don't know enough to comment on the 10 minute charging, but 500 horsepower electric motors have been around for 100 years (well a really long time at least) and there's no reason you cant strap 2 on the rear wheels of a car.  I will be really heavy, but I'm sure it will still be really fast.

People generally seem to agree the Internal Combustion gasoline engine is nearing the end of its life.  Well, if you don't see electrics in the future, what will it be?  hydrogen powered cars? lol!

I'm european and we usually tend to have kind of a different approach to car matters but I like your Show Matt and your distinct objections, thumbs up man.
But I'd like to correct you regarding your remarks on FIAT, which as for now is one of the best organized car makers,
IN THE WORLD. And as for there Boss, Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, this guy is a Legend, he's one of the most respected business leaders, again, IN THE WORLD,
you should know that and that Ferrari (owned by Fiat) got to its newly found greatness only thanks to him as he spearheded the renovation of the then troubled supercarmaker from `91 till '04. Not to mention world championships he won with teh scuderia ferrari in the 70s
I'm not sure if the combination with Chrysler is such a good think for the latter, I dont know the details, but I dont have to knoew them to see the opportunity in it for FIAT, which opened themselfs a large door to the North American market...  etc

According to the guy at the Chrysler part of the Philly Auto Show, the reason their EVs have a tailpipe is that they are "extended range" EVs, and have a gas motor driving a generator to power the car after the battery runs out.  He didn't know if it also recharges the battery, which I believe is what the Chevy Volt DOESN'T do.

My phone doesn't even charge in 10 minutes.

Maybe they're not using a chemical battery, but a mechanical one instead...

About the motor:
We'll put the hypothesis that they found/made a 500 hp motor and that they are using two. Possibly in series therefore a 1000hp is created and that was proven to go 210mph with that cd and fa and extra weight mention below.

About the range:
We all know that you cannot get 250 miles at 210mph...that is just ridiculous. The current Aero is said to go 7:30 minutes at top speed. That works out to be about 30 miles...

About the range/batteries:
On an EV Aero you will not use the gas tank. Therefore you have 32 gallon of space freed up (121 liters). 
Current LiPo battery have a energy/size of 300Wh/liter So you have 36300Wh available just from the old gas tank. 
It just needs another 20kWh to match Tesla's. BUT!! Tesla's has .3ish cd compared to SSC .35 the frontal area of the Tesla is the same than a Lotus Elise (17ish ft²) compared to 19ft² for the SSC. That said, the SSC will need more kW to move their car. BUT NOT that much. 
Just another 100 liters(26 gallons, about 30kW to total at 66kW should be plenty.
I am sure they can find that extra space in the car; or even strech the chassis a bit.

Yes, 66kW of battery is heavy, that is why the car is said to "only" do 210mph compared to her sister who does 256mph.
Yes, putting more weight where the gas tank used to be will upset the balance, but I am just showing you how it could be done.
Yes, the Tesla is not an Elise but I am using rough numbers to give a ballpark figure.

About the recharge time: 
Well, Toshiba claims to have produced a new battery that recharges in 10 minutes. SSC better use ultracaps for short burst of energy(could be receiving or giving) and because they recharge quickly.

Fiat, little tiny econo cars that look like crap and only get DECENT gas mileage. 33.3MPG!!! thats IT!!!!! and now chrystler is merging with them is just going to kill the company. me: YEAH!!! Matt, what you should do is an episode of compairing the different braches of chrystler and its competitors and the market, then discuss what branch  chrystler should close down. if they're still in business by then. and the QOD, then SSC was able to make the fastest car in the world on gas, so why can't they do it on electric? the 210MPH thing i believe, 150 mile charge i believe that, the 1000HP i believe that, but the 10 minute charge? that is impossible, even if it is 20 years in the future, no way!!!

You guys are too hard on Chrysler.  I'm kind of excited about the Fiat/Chrysler deal.  I think the Fiat 500 looks like a pretty cool car, and might give the Mini some competition.  I don’t know much about the market in South America, but I would imagine that the Dakota would probably do well, not so sure about a crossover though.  I think the Fiat deal also included some Alfa Romeo cars to come to the U.S.?  I would love to see some Alfas on the road again here.
I agree with most of the posters below, the SSC EV could probably do most of the things it says, but not all at once.  Maybe they are looking at using some kind of capacitor based energy storage?  That would be very light weight and charge quickly.  Who knows, sounds very experimental and untested to me.

THE SSC Ultimate Aero EV the fastest electric car? Only if and only as long as it takes to get the Eliica, a Japanese Electric Supercar, Eight motors and 8WD, already known to be capable of 200 miles on an charge and top speed of 230+ mph, to market. 

I'm more curious about the the 10 minute recharge time. I know the batteries exist. But it's like no one else knows they are out thee or something. But more over why use batteries that are still, at least, a decade from being practical? 

Use a gas generator. A small turbine, or an ICE to a CVT to spin the generator and make the 1.35 Megawatts you need to power the car.

QOD, full charge in 15 mins, 150 miles on a charge and 210 mph top speed? Yes ,I believe some of it. 150 miles on a charge, maybe if you drive with 25mph. 210 top speed, yes but as soon as it gets to that the batteries will die. "full" charge in 15 mins? Yes but it won't have 150 mile range or be capable of reaching 210mph. 
But, we will see.

Great show! But why does it take so long for the video to download from this site??? I can watch Fast Lane Daily just fine. Auotweek, no problem. Ditto, Autoline Daily. Garage 419? Almost un-watchable. No, make that un-watchable. Too slow man!

And by the way, enough with the conspiracy theories already. Electric cars don't work because the technology hasn't been invented yet. The fish carburetor never existed, and neither did anyone kill off or buy up any patents.

I think that we need to just put Chrysler in a padded room with some toys that don't have any sharp edges, SSC needs to just give it up, sure they have the fastest production car but really most people still give that up to the Veyron. I think that if a company really wants to build an EV they need to foot the bill themselves, this type of transportation has been shown to be over the long run unreliable and really not cost efficient. Hybrid technology and diesel is the way to go for now...but actually there is one car that I'm curious about the Scorpion by Ronn Motor Company  it is supposed to be a Hydrogen gasolin hybrid that produces its hydrogen fuel from an on board water tank.  if you guys have any info on that I'd love to hear it

I think the SSC can do 210mph, they make the fastest current production car so if any company was going to make the fastest electric car, they're the ones to do it. I doubt it could do 150 miles AT 210mph though, I think you may be interpreting it incorrectly. Charging in 10 minutes would be fantastic, but I doubt that fact very much. If it is true, it would revolutionize the potential for electric vehicles altogether. However, I mantain that electric vehicles are no better than gasoline powered vehicles due to the fact that the electricity is coming from a factory where fossil fuels are being burned. I think Hydrogen is the fuel of the future.

In other news, Chrylser is clueless, but that is nothing new.

The reason why electric cars will not work is because Mobil and other large oil companies bought up all the patents on the batteries that would easily power any type of automobile.
