drifting is a fantastic skill, but i feel that if you're doing it in a car thats designed to drift....whats the point - wheres the skill in that? its far more exciting and more skillful watching a stock car being drifted, a bog standard M5, any standard RWD road car with an LSD. coz its not been designed to simply drift, and takes more finesse and skill to hold it in the slide.

I was going to post about the merits of being open to what people should consider a motorsport but I came up with a simple point. Just because it is judged instead of using a timed finish doesn't somehow remove the concept of "sport." Many sports are judged, just look at the Olympics. In the end there is competition, which IMHO is the definition of sport.

I don't want to seem like a hater below. Maybe I'm not in love with drifting because 1. I can't do it. 2. I can't afford to replace tires every week 3. I can't afford to replace my clutch and transmission every month. I tell you what I do love though and to me they are the best drivers on earth. Rally Cross. Like I said before it is cool and the cars are great. I just don't like judged events unless it's a bikini contest. If they could come up with away to eliminate the need for judges then I'm all in.

I agree it takes skill to drift, but its an exhibition, not a sport. Seeing that Mustang drifting is cool. Live yer dream brother! ;)

I've been to Drifting Events at Irwendale Speedway and I agree that oval tracs do not provide much varitation BUT! I never knew how damn cool drifting was. AWSOME. I got Chills today from G419! Clever Idea and Good Job Mathew(Oprah) Farrah! Cheers.

I don't really get Drifting. It is cool to look at though. Love seeing Japanese people hear a Throaty V8. I hate Ford but the Mustang (V8) has the best exhaust note I've ever heard. Nice low rumble.
