Nissan GT-R vs Nissan 370z - Garage419

i feel that the GTR is a better sports car. GTR has been a serious car since it's making of the R32 working it's way up to the legendary R34. this all weel drive car gives you the grip n the torque need to make it fast n reliable. Now this super car version of the skyline have surface the GTR. 0 TO 100 IN 3.2 seconds what more can u get! not to mention the trigger shift which allows u to control the speed of the car right at ur fingertips. yea maybe the 370z had the auto downshift for those who have the need of downshifting assistance what happens when u don't want to down shift? GTR gives u that chance. it is truly a high performance car. real driving is with real shifts not some auto down shifts that's taking away from the drivers true capabilitys and the car's true aggressive nature. being honest i am the guy who wants my first car to be a nissan skyline GTR R34 or nissan GTR R35 the other cars i'll get later example new mclaren lamboghini etc my car is GTR!!!!!!

This is stupid GTR all the way side by side on a track any track GTR gets it clear win. You can get in a GTR and act like it drives itself if you want to and end up driving into a wall at 120mph. I have raced a GTR in 370z on a track day and well lost like i said clear win. Now the GTR is like 0,000 and the nismo 370z is 000 the only way to make it fair is you put a 0,000 in to the 370z and then and only then will you have a race.

put a better engine and some mods on the 370 and it will be the better car (in my opinion) but if both GTR and 370 are stock then obviously the GTR is the better car

come on guys lets ignore street talk and talk track. I dont see any comments from guys that act like they have every been to a track? and who here has driven a GTR or 370 on the track? track driving is 90% skill and 10% car. I have a mod GTR and track it trust me the car does not drive itself. A bad line is not corrected by the GTR. Shifting is shifting and the GTR does not correct a bad shift. Braking is braking and the GTR does not break for you. All the thrill of driving is enhanced with the GTR due to its outstanding performance. The only real difference is 2 wheel vers 4 wheel drive. Yes the GTR has the ability to control each wheel for traction control as any AWD should but even this takes skill to control.

I had an 03 350z and i know exactly what he is talking about... one time i forgot that I had taken the traction control off, taking a corner too fast by the winnie standard I ended up sideways[literally] on an overpass, brought it back within 10 feet and took the left hand corner as if it was nothing... that's what it's all about!!! Sterilizing cars like the gtr is just a shame. I say put the cars back into the hands of people that love them, not just because they can afford them!

I have to go with the Z over the GT-R on this one. It's not realistic for me, with an average income to make payments and insurance on a GT-R, plus the additional maintenance! Now that that's said, how can you have a car show and NOT show they cars out on the track?!

To give u a point of view of a auto tech, i know im not the smarts but im not the dumbs and when i poped the hood of both of these cars and its not a sports car feel when u get your hands on the motor, too many sensors and baby siters under the hood, emissions and goverment contol has it to wired up. The motors that have that sports car feel are like the sr20, rb26, b18, k20 and the h22 or cars with a setup like the 280z.

Good debate.. I had a nicely preped miata and now have an evo. Similar pure sports car versus fast awd. I'm clearly faster on the track in the evo, but my old miata was more "fun to drive". I just can't haul the kids in a miata. But in the end, if money was not an issue, i'd easily buy the GTR. It's really fun to pass cars on the track.. then I'd buy an old used miata, just for fun..

o.k. good debate but the 370 can turn off the down shift blip. just like the gt-r's nannys. and i think that the best true sports car is an ap1 s2000. this car has no traction control. its just you the car and the road. hte only thing is the abs. if someone cant drive the s2k will bite you in the ass. and with the 9k redline there is nothing closer to a race engine avaiable. correct me if im wrong.

To me a true sports car is one that connects you more with the road. It won't have a lot of options, will be small, and will handle exceptionally. The GTR is more of a GT car, big power, heavier, larger stature, and a lot more creature comforts. I think the 370 is closer to a sports car than the GTR. Although my opinion is they both are a bit too big to fit into my idea of a purest sports car. the RX-7, 240SX/Silvia, Elise/Exige, Miata/MX-5, MGB, TR6/GT6 ect are cars that fit this class better. the GTR and Z are GT class cars at heart and are both great cars.

The 370Z appeals to me more as a former owner of a 240Z and a 260Z. I can afford a GTR but with today's economy the 370Z is a bargain for the average sportscar lover who has to use this car as a daily driver. I live in South Florida and could never use the GTR to its potential on my daily commute.

I agree with John on the 370Z. That's why I still have my 1993 RX-7.

gtr reminds me a lot of the challenger. i know they are not even in the same class. but hear me out. they are both BIG cars. tanks if you will. and both of them have a but load of money dumped in to development to over come that. where as something like the 370z starts out with a better platform and if the manufacture was to put the same effort in to designing the smaller leaner platform they would have a much better car in the end. with that said the gtr is the better car, but i'd own the 370z. since the godzilla car looks like godzilla and godzilla's just not sexy.

It's like having a 16" Schlong. It's the biggest and baddest around but you can't use all of it so you get less satisfaction than a guy with a 9 incher.

Today I followed a 370z for at least 10 minutes, checking it out. I then walked around a GT-R in a parking lot. I then watched this show……………. The 370z is a simpler sports car, but not an old school "will-kill-you" if not driven correctly sports car. The GT-R has the status of a super car, not just a sports car. In that regard, it is not in the same league. I would say any car that has no diver-aids is really the true sports car, like a Viper. But, that does not mean a “good” driver can drive the purist car any faster around a track. In fact, technology is what allows F1 drivers to drive the insane speeds they do and I do not think anyone of them would want to drive something as crude as a NASCAR.

i have to agree with mr. naderi...when he was talking about the old school porsches and ferraris how they drove like shit when a whats-his-name drove them but when an experienced driver got theirhands on it they drove like a dream...the gtr is in fact one the best supercars for the money but it is true that the gtr hides "bad driving" because of all the technology invested in the vehicle. dont get me wrong, i know that more and more sports cars are now becoming available with the F1 tranny, high rev engines etc., but you have to get to the heart and soul of driving and drive it yourself when you get behind the of a sports car; dont let the computer do the driving. for that i would let someone else do the driving for me but since i love driving thats never going to happen.

I kinda agree with John that The 370Z is a more pure sports car, but only in the sence that a Mazda Miata is more of a Pure Sports car than a Bugatti Veyron. Like the Veyron the GTR is a Tecnological Tour de Force where as IMO the 370z is modern take on a back to basics Sports machiene. I love boath cars, Nissan FTW!!

I have to agree with John. From a purist perspective the Z car is closer to being a pure sports car. Don't get me wrong, the GTR is an absolute wonder of modern technology and design. I would rather a car that rewards good driving, not one that augments sour driving.

i would personally choose the GTR, but that costs alot more than a Z. both great cars, but the Z is more of a sports car, similar to the mustang. the GTR is a performance car, but for the track, with all the power and gadgets you need. so its all about preferences, if you like RWD raw skills cars, the go Z, if you like going crazy fast, GTR.

lol well like u guys said they r 2 different cars at the core. i guess they both fall under the "sports car" umbrella but really they cant be compared. i'm a big fan of both cars but the one thing i don't like about the new GTR is the fact that its an automatic. just like he was saying i don't care how many hundredths of a sec u shave off by having it be an automanual i want a stick. i mean the GTR's were always kool cuz even tho the car could make any old suit look like a pro cuz of all the electronics, u could always still boast 2 ur buddies that it wasnt all the cars doing, but now that they've taken the one thing that still kinda classified it as a drivers car away, i'm not as big a fan anymore. dont get me wrong i still think they r kool, and if i had the money i'd probably pick one up but only after i've gotten every other car on my list and only cuz in order 2 get a R34 u'd have to import it.

I understand what the guy is saying. I'm not driving F1, I don't want a car to drive it's self even if it is faster. I want to drive it myself, I want the performance expressed to be a direct result of my input not the ECM. How about this, buy your girl a device to do your job for you so you don't have to do anything but watch. If you want a car like that, stay at home and play a video game.

Definetly the Z. I agree with slow car fast trumps fast car slow. Much cooler. It's all about the feel. efortless speed is good,but not necessarily rewarding

personally I prefer a manual transmission and that is one of the biggest issues that I have with the GTR. I have looked at a 370z and just didn't care much for it. If the GTR had a manual option and Nissan sorted the warranty issues I'd go for the GTR hands down but until then, well I probably will look elsewhere for my four wheeled fun.

I haven't driven either one of them, but since my sister have a Miata and I have tried that one, my main complaint was that I couldn't use the clutch because I'm about Matts size and my leg got stuck between the wheel and the door, I had to downshift way to early to get any real enjoionment out of it when I hit leftturns. Every downshift caused my knee to hit the wheel and the car to take abit of rightturn, funny thing since my father persisted in coming with me, I'm 45 and he's 67, and he kept on complaining of how fast I drove and warn me about curves and I still drove about 20 km/h slower then I did in the Opel Vectra I had then. I did get around faster in my BMW, and in my current Audi I haven't even tried, to boring, itäs got more power, but still boring. On the matter at hand, well, the Z is more of a traditional sportscar and the GTR is sort af a cheap supercar, like comparing an Elise with a 430 or 599. Z is more of a sportscar but I would still prefer a GTR.

When I think of a sports car I think of a Porsche GT3 or Lotus or Corvette Z06. These cars are light weight with RWD. So my vote goes to the Z. I havent driven a GTR but I have driven the new Porsche turbo (some similarities to a GTR) and the Turbo is fast and pretty bad ass but not close to as fun as a Z driving around town. Alot of these new high tech cars feel like they are driving you instead of you them. I wouldn't be surprised if the next gen GTR uses a PlayStation controller in place of a steering wheel.

The question of whether the GT-R35 or the 370Z is the more "pure" sports car is a red herring. The GT-R35 is NOT a sports car. It is a Performance car. What is the difference? The Vast majority of automotive SPORT is built around and limited to, 2WD (usually RWD). Because of this, an AWD car does NOT qualify for the sport. As a result the AWD GT-R35 does not qualify as a sports car. This does not mean that it is not an awesome Performance car. It is made to be very fast and almost absurdly maneuverable. It's electronic package allows it to do things most cars just can not. But as is, a GT-R35 does not and can not qualify for competition in any sanctioned sport. Hence it's street racing credential lacking much, if any, current sanctioned racing cred. Can it perform? Without a doubt. Can it win a race? Without a doubt. Can it race for points? No. There is no sport that will support this car as is. Hence why NISSAN is developing RWD variants for SPORT. The 370Z, on the other hand, can race for points and play the sport. It is the Sports car. To answer the original question: the "purest" sports car, the only one of the two is, by default, the 370Z.

So...why do people hate electronics? They make the car: handle better more efficient more powerful go around quicker use less tire safer What is wrong with that?

Great Episode. I think the 370Z is more of a pure sports car then the GT-R. Just the fact that its RWD alone gives it that IMHO. The GT-R is as much a sports car as the Veyron is a Hypercar....they are in the same class but they are completely different then the rest. On a side note, I'd rather own a 370Z then a GT-R anyways because you can actually use the functions of the car and modify the car to your liking without voiding the warranty.

Who cares what your top speed is if you never come within 60mph of it, or what your cars nannies can do if you never need them. Potential is nothing until it is realized. The car most likely to reach its potential is the Z. Outside of track days the the Z is the better cars. Isn't that what they were built for anyway? Street driving.

gtr has too many computers on it. it is the same problem with Ferrari... a 599 doesn't need all the assistance a formula 1 car has because it is so tame to begin with. in other words a car with 1000+ bhp per tonne needs some assistance for even a good driver to get good lap times but in a road car it just needs to be setup properly. my point, self import a noble m15 or r34 skyline

In my opinion, the reason John prefers the 370Z to the GT-R is because the 370Z represents a car that he is able to drive at its limit. Relating to the Miata comment (Its not a gay car, BTW) is a lower power car with very good handling characteristics and inherently easy to drive at its limit. I don't beleive their are many people out there that can really drive a new GT-R at its limit! Which validates John's point of view. I agree with John, The 370Z is more a purist's sports car because it is easy to drive at it's limit and have fun with.

u want a car that has blow ur mind speed and handling but u also want that connection wit the car. i agree wit matt i like the gtr a lot more, its capabilities are far superior. u talk about how u cant drive it to its full potential; u can its just not legal, u gotta pay to play.

It's like asking about the 911 vs. the 944? They are both "sports cars" ... but at different price points. Discussion over. Enthusiast drivers of sports cars typically want light weight and big power (power to weight). That means a "true driving enthusiast" would rather have roll-up windows and cloth interior vs. electric windows and heated leather seats with auto accessories. When was the last time a driving enthusiast said he/she would rather listen to a high output stereo rather than a tuned exhaust? Sports cars would be a lot less expensive if they just gave us a great driving vehicle and suspended all of the electro shiite.

Nice debate guys! But I thought the streetfire guy has a GTR by himself so now his opinion is that he wasted money buying the GTR?! Well I'm also of the opinion that the better sportscar should be more the size of the 370Z because Godzilla is really a huge car and so not appropriate for all tracks and roads. Just my 2cents.
