Who Needs Alloy Wheels When You Can Get... Plastic?!

Thats right! The wave of the future is just around the corner, and coming to you from none other then the car crazy nation of Germany (who woulda thunk??). The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft located in Munich is currently developing reliable testing methods for their GRP, or glass reinforced plastic, wheels against the punishments of daily road hazards. The problem at the moment is simulations used for metallic wheels don't seem to cut the cheese with their plastic counterpart's, giving innacurate data on hitting curbs, pot holes, and other wonderful wheel damaging events. Benefits of the plastic wheels include light weight construction, durability, and a price tag that won't break the bank. To all those carbon fiber fanatics out there - eat your heart out!
