The crew over at GTchannel cut together some really cool exclusive footage for the Spoon Sports 2009 Tokyo Auto Salon. Spoon President and driver Tatsuru Ichishima managed to almost make it through the entire qualification without a hitch, but ended up crashing on the last lap. Also included is in-car footage from race day showing off the magnificent performance abilities of these JDM race cars on the track at the Macau Grand Prix.

This electric Ariel Atom blows away the competition in a quarter mile drag race. I'm not a fan of electric cars, even though they are zero emissions and theoretically have lossless powertrains, the range and practically is still non-existant. Even if the car could go 200 miles on one charge, it will still take a few hours at best to be fully recharged... so much for getting home in time for dinner.

This MINI Cooper S attended the Car Club HPDE at Daytona International Speedway hosted by Audi Club of Ohio. This little demon was able to rip and tear its way around the corners fast enough to pass a whole heap of WAY more powerful cars. Looks dropping exorbitant amounts of money on a car doesn’t guarantee success at the track.

A post found on the Audiworld Off-Topic forums caught my attention when a member found pictures of this super tricked out Smart Car in a... I guess custom shop (?) in what was supposedly Malaysia. If this is what entails having the Smart Car brought to our side of the puddle, I say don't. We have enough tricked out Civics and Scion toaster boxes with speakers that could make a deaf man blind, and having another micro machine for ecstasy fueled gear heads (yes I'm stereotyping) to tinker with is to much for me to handle. But I will concede that not all of those bolt-on body kit monsters are bad... I've seen many tastefully "modified" cars of all kinds, so there may yet be hope for us all, although not so much for this particular example.

Some fool locked himself out of his running Audi and called the dealer for help. They suggested to break the right passenger window (because they had a spare in stock) to get in. Looks like this simple task turned into the biggest ordeal ever. It turns out the Audi's windows aren't built beyond the normal standards but to take the punishment these guys dished out was impressive. They finally got in after 8 minutes of pounding on the window with numerous objects.

Winding road takes the 08 M3 for a spin and puts it through its paces. The sound and power of the new M3's V8 power plant is awesome, by far one of the best sounding sub $100k cars built, but sadly to say... Chris Bangle destroyed the look. Even though the (+2 more cylinders) V8 delivers 420 hp from 4.0 litters and maximum torque of 295 lb-ft, it doesn't work for me, it looks like Angelina Jolie after packing on 50lbs. Maybe one day an E36 based M3 will be made, shedding the pounds of over-design and "sexy body curves." Curves are meant for the road, not the car.
