Driving the Porsche 997 GT3
-Gene Sanchez

Gene's Verdict: Oh yess.
And now it was time. Noah informed me which leg of the tour would be best to take the GT3. I hopped out of a 0k hyperexotic Murcielago and into a 0k porsche...and couldn't have been happier. The interior is fantastic. Alcantara everything. While I don't think it should have one it was nice being able to open up the sunroof. The sitting position was pure racecar. Views at every angle were perfect. And finally I was driving a proper manual car. The shifter was a little further away than my liking, very notchy, and not overly precise. Something that while I wasn't it liking too much, given more time with the shifter I would have eventually fell in love. The car sounded fantastic and went like hell. The car didn't feel nearly as fast as it was. Was expecting the opposite to be honest. Hit 130 very quickly on one straight with zero drama. The steering is very very good. All aspects of it. But it fell short of my expectations.... and Ferrari. Took some nice twisty roads which had Lisa closing her eyes. Something she's never done with me before even in my Z06. The car was a ton of fun...much much more exciting than the 996 Turbo S I drove in the past. The car handled like it was on rails however would kick the back out when I wasn't expecting it. I'm sure this is due to the fact that the engine is in the wrong place. Bad design engineered to perfection. Not really a fault of the car just something I'm not used to. I like this car a lot. It was my hopes that this car would be so great it would capture my desires as the perfect sports car. Wanting nothing but a Ferrari has it's drawbacks. The Porsche is more reliable, cheaper and easier to get your hands on. I had very high expectations for this car and it fell short. The GT3 is an amazing machine but it is no Ferrari. Woman's review: It's ugly and the rear wing is retarted. But at least you look like you're having fun.
